Perfect Pixel HD Engine Wiki
Perfect Pixel HD Engine is a Philips TV feature in which every pixel of the TV picture is enhanced to better match the adjacent pixels to give a smooth natural looking picture. This results in very sharp pictures with extra vivid colours, superior contrast and smooth motion.
This is a TV feature by which 2 TV channels can be viewed at the same time.
Pillarbox Effect in TV picture
The Pillarbox Effect in a TV picture occurs when watching ordinary SDTV 4:3 movies on a 16:9 HDTV. Since the 4:3 picture is not as wide as HDTV there are two vertical black bars at the sides of the picture. This effect is known as the Pillar Box effect or the picture is a Pillar Boxed Video.
Pixels in TV screen
A Pixel is the short form of 'Picture Element' and is the smallest element which makes a TV picture. Pixels appear like small dots as in the image here. Pixels are clearly visible when you go close up to any television. The more the number of pixels a TV picture is made up of, the sharper the picture gets, since the TV pixel density increases. In HDTV there are 1920x1080 pixels and they are barely visible even if you go close up to the screen.
Pixel Density is the number of Pixels per inch on the TV screen. You can easily calculate the Pixels per inch (PPi) of a TV by finding the width of the TV screen in inches and dividing the total horizontal resolution by the width in inches
Pixel response time
The time it takes for a pixel to switch from 'on to off' or 'off to on' and is usually measured in milliseconds (one thousandth of a second). The response time of LCD and LED TVs is slow and hence you have the effect of trailing ghost pictures on fast moving pictures.
Plasma TV explained
A plasma TV has thousands of gas filled cells, each containing a mixture of rare gases (neon and xenon). These cells glow when charged with electric voltages to produce different colours. Each of the plasma cell pixels light up individually to varying colours depending on the electric charge applied to them. Thus plasma TV usually has a much higher contrast ratio than an LCD TV which has a back light applied to the whole back surface. Plasma TV has other advantages over LCD TV like, better Viewing angle (clearer picture from the sides of the TV), fast motion picture without blurring of fast moving objects and is usually cheaper than LCD or LED TV. The disadvantages are that it is usually heavier and may be subject to 'Burn-in'.
PPi or Pixels per inch
PPi or Pixels per inch is the number of Pixels per inch on the TV screen. PPi is also called the pixel density of the TV screen. You can easily calculate the Pixels per inch (ppi) of a TV by finding the width of the TV screen in inches and dividing the total horizontal resolution by the width in inches
Progressive Scans unlike Interlace Scans the complete picture at the same time. The 'p' after the horizontal line resolution figures like 480p, 720p and 1080p stands for progressive. Of the two scanning methods interlaced and progressive, the progressive is the better one, because it avoids problems like 'judder' or 'jitter' or 'flickering' in the TV. The best quality pictures from today's TV technology is available from a 1080p device like from a Blu-ray player.
A projector directs a strong beams of light through small LCD or CRT screens or is reflected from a DLP (Digital Light Processor) Chip on to a screen. Projectors can be of two types, rear projection and front projection. In rear projection the light source sits behind the screen like in a rear projection TV. In Front projection the projector is in front of the screen. Front projectors are easily portable and the light output from it can be displayed on large screens. These projectors are a convenient way to make presentations in different locations.

Rainbow effect DLP Projector
Rainbow Effect in DLP Projector is a problem which may be caused to a some of the viewers of DLP projectors. This is caused by the high speed spinning colour wheel which projects the primary colours Red, Green and blue at high frequency on to the screen. Some people have the illusion of seeing flashes of colours like a rainbow. This is the rainbow effect. These problems are not there in a 3 chip DLP projector where the primary colours are projected continuously.
Rear projection TVs were popular before the advent of the LCD and LED flat screen TVs. Rear Projection TVs have big screens and the picture on them are projected on to the rear of the screen from an internal projector.
Refresh Rate of TV
Refresh rate is how many times per second the image changes on the screen. Higher refresh rate helps in reducing the motion blur on fast moving scenes, like the football looks blurred on the TV when it is moving fast. ‘Hz’ is a symbol for 'Hertz' and is a measurement of frequency, the number of cycles per second.
Resolution of TV Screen
Resolution of TV Screen is fixed and is expressed by the total number of pixels horizontally into the number of pixels vertically. This is called the Native Resolution of the TV - for example the resolution of high definition TV or HDTV is 1920 horizontal and 1080vertical pixels (1920x1080). HD Ready TV has resolution of 1280x720 or 1,366x768. In Digital Camera talk, it would be 2.07 Mega Pixel for full HDTV (1920x1080) and 0.92 Mega Pixel for HD ready TV (1280x720). The picture quality of a higher resolution TV has a better picture quality.
RF Input or Jack
RF means the Radio Frequency. Input sockets using RF technology is called an analog connection. It is also referred to as the '75-ohm coaxial' connection. This is used for connecting external dish antennas to components having a built-in tuner, such as DTH (direct to home) STB (set top box) or satellite receivers, TVs, etc. RF cable connectors are called "F-type" connectors, and either screw onto the 75-ohm jack or on older TVs you see the push type jack. In this connection it should be mentioned that there are several qualities of coaxial cables used to connect the external antennas. Make sure you get a good quality cable, because the loss of signal quality suffers if inferior cables are used. For example use cables marked RG-6 instead of the standard RG-59 cables.
